Anglers Journal Book Club
Anglers tell the best stories.
Since Anglers Journal began publishing, we have always included book recommendations for our readers. With that in mind, we decided to launch the Anglers Journal Book Club.
The next book we will be reading is Blood Knots, a fishing memoir by Luke Jennings. Growing up in the 1960s, Jennings was fascinated by the mysterious life he found in local rivers and lakes. Using library books, he taught himself to fish until a series of mentors entered his life. One teacher was a young intelligence officer who taught him the art of dry-fly fishing. Blood Knots is about fishing, friendship, honor and discovery.
"Luke Jennings' Blood Knots is a wondrous book," wrote Jim Harrison. "As a lifetime obsessive reader of angling literature, I know whereof I speak. In modern times Jennings is the stratosphere of Roderick Haig-Brown and Tom McGuane's rarified The Longest Silence. The prose is graceful and treatment of material utterly fresh. I couldn't recommend it more highly."
Jennings has written for Vanity Fair, The New Yorker and more. His work Codename Villanelle is the basis of the hit television show Killing Eve.
All are welcome to this informal gathering and encouraged to contribute. We have reached out to author Luke Jennings, and he is going to do his best to join our discussion.
